Agave bracteosa
Supplied in a 7cm pot
Agave bracteosa is an Agave like no other. It is extremely hardy (down to -8℃), Polycarpic, meaning it flowers many times in it’s life time and it has no dangerous spikes or spines. Known as the Spider or Octopus Agave, this small species is perfect for cultivation in European gardens either in containers or in the ground.
Like all Agave, A.bracteosa requires a sharply drained substrate with low nutrient levels. This small Agave is reliably hardy to -8℃ and is happy to get a regular supplementary watering during the warmer months. Additionally A.bracteosa prefers a south facing position, but with shade from summer midday sun. It is surprising that this Agave is not more popular in cultivation, given its smallish size, lack of dangerous spikes and hardiness. Agave bracteosa makes a fantastic plant for pot culture or as a large clump on a well drained bed.
