Echium candicans ‘The Pride of Madeira’
(Echium fastuosum)

A bushy perennial semi evergreen shrub, endemic to the island of Madeira. Grey wood stems are topped with glaucous-hairy lance-shaped leaves and densely packed terminal spikes of deep blue flowers in summer. Grows to about 1.5 meters with a 2 meter spread.
Only suitable for gardens with very mild micro climates that experience no deep frosts. Perfect for southern coastal gardens. Must be grown in very well drained soil, in full sun. Can be grown in large pots of free draining loam based compost and moved under frost free glass.

RHS hardiness rating H1c . However we think this is overly cautious and H3 is more appropriate .
