Musa Sikkimensis ‘Bengal Tiger’

An alternative to Musa basjoo, proving to be nearly as root hardy and arguably more attractive. This fantastic banana will grow to 3 to 4 meters with careful cultivation. Its mid- green leaves are marked with stripes of maroon develop as the plant matures, with a maroon midrib and redish undersides to the leaves. The best colours are produced in good sunlight.
Musa sikkimensis originates in the Himalayan foothills of the North east Indian regions including Darjeeling, Assam, Sikkim and Manipur.
Plant in very well drained, moist, rich soil, in full sun to part shade. Protect in winter either by lifting and storing in a frost free green house or wrapping in the same way Musa basjoo are treated.

Plants are supplied in a 9cm pot, with their compost and are similar to the plants seen in pictures 5 and 6. Pictures one to  four shows a planted specimen and is not the plant for sale.
