Echium Pininana ‘Blue Steeple’
‘The Crown of Jewels’

A tall rosette-forming biennial or sometimes short-lived perennial. The single stem of lance-shaped, roughly textured, silver-hairy leaves, grows up to 1m in length. The massive rosette produces a flower panicle up to 4m long of funnel-shaped sky blue flowers in June to late summer. Loved by Bees, to the point that the whole plant hums with pollinators.
Grow in sunny well drained position and shelter from strong winds. Not massively hardy so we grow in deep pots (3 to 4 litre rose pots), for the first year or two. Planting out in the final year for flowering in April. In sheltered micro climates of town and cities or in mild southern areas, Echiums can be planted out straight away and protected with Horticultral fleece.
