A tuberous perennial from Mexico, growing to 30cm, more compact than the species and with a strong chocolate scent. Foliage is narrow, rather bluish green, and the bowl-shaped, late-summer flowers are dark chocolate/ red and makes a fabulous exotic cut flower.
Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun and treat like a tuberous dahlia. Mulch in autumn. in cold areas lift tubers before first frosts and keep frost-free over winter. Can also be grown in pots and moved under greenhouse benches or a shed for winter.
Chocolate cosmos is Bee friendly and It's perfect for growing in a hot sunny garden, what more could you want?
