A medium sized perennial banana from Northeast India, with a narrow pseudo-stems, upright paddle shaped leaves and fabulous pink flower bracts followed by curiously hairy pink fruits. Musa velutina is on the very edge of the ‘possibly hardy exotics’ . Probably root hardy with loads of mulch and protection, possibly pseudo-stem hardy with similar protection given to other Musa (See our M.basjoo guide). Alternatively grow in pots and give frost free, protection indoors, which seems to be acceptable to this fantastic and highly desirable exotic banana. Definitely a must have exotic plant for the jungle gardener.
