Passiflora mollissima
Common name: ’The Banana Passionfruit’
This is a vigorous summer to autumn flowering climber from northern South America. Leaves are up to 10cm long, with tree lobes. The leaves are downy and have small serrated edges, making this one of the ‘vine leaved’ Passiflora. The showy flowers are long tubed, bright, to mid pink and open to form large flowers up to 15cm across. The fruits that follow are long elongated and almost banana like in colour when ripe. The 8cm fruits are very edible, but will need a long hot summer to ripen. Grow in a large pot and place outside in summer. Will need winter protection in areas prone to long periods of frost. Protect in a frost free, unheated glass house or conservatory.
Full Sun.
Well drained.
